A Historical Night & Wordle

Check out Wordle! This is a Wordle created using the text from Barack Obama's speech on election night. Wordle is a great tool because it can quickly highlight the main idea of a body of text. How could this be used in your classroom?

  1. This looks like a super cook way to take text and use it in a more visual way. Rock on!

  2. That was supposed to say cool. I also like the words used often appear larger - again, a cool way to analyze text.

  3. This would be a great way to get kids to predict what words they think would be the most important in a text and then hit the Wordle to see what pops.

  4. I like the prediction activity. You could put a few samples of a lab write-up or a conclusion to show kids as a sample of how it connects to the main idea. If the big words are not the main idea, then maybe it needs to be reworked.

  5. This could be a fun way to process the main idea of an article or activity. Have students write a paragraph summary of the text but they have to use the big words from the wordle in their summary.

  6. Andrew Rummel had the kids take a book they were starting and create a Wordle using old school tools like paper and markers. The kids used words they saw as they previewed their books and they predicted the big words they thought would contain the main ideas. The Wordles turned out really cool. Andrew's a genius and I copy him every chance I get!
